So excited! I won the first round solo for us, which was terrifying. Never ever play in front of people with just an acoustic guitar between you and them. Never. The winners of the finals get signed to a short-term record contract with opportunities to be transferred to bigger labels and extended mentorship. I'm so close to accomplishing my first round of goals it hurts. As the cliche goes: so close, yet so far away . So true, yet so overused. But it sucks because this is all coming right in the middle of my second round of major atypical depression, which is this time punctuated by bouts of mania so I'm not really enjoying it as much as I should. It's kind of like being hit with a hammer through a pillow, or getting a blow job while your dick is in a balloon of paint. Nothing feels as much as it should or as fast as it should except maybe the negative emotions and thoughts, and that renders that metaphor sorta useless, but I like the imagery. It's really awful, but it makes me so much more creative and stage performing becomes easier for whatever reason. I'd kill to swap with a stable person. Anyhow, that got dark. Have some Pavement, Built to Spill and vintage Jimmy Eat World as reparation.

God no! We've earned every single thing we've done with our music and have never ever gotten any help or handouts. It's a non-profit YMCA affiliate that gets massive funding from Kirkland arts association. My friend raps, and he's been getting shows at Studio Seven (a mid-range Seattle venue), and I just found out that he's paying $50 a night for those shows with no ticket money. Rule one is do it for yourself, but really? Reeeallly?

Yeah in general went I went into similar things I expected nothing and found them to be great experiences. But that was also while keeping in mind exactly what the companies are.
